Twomblys to PNG

At Community Baptist Church we believe that biblical missions is church-centered missions. We support missionaries who plant and strengthen churches. CBC’s goal is to train men who will faithfully shepherd the flock of God and to train others to do likewise. The Twomblys exemplify this with their aim to see God glorified among the people of Papua New Guinea with the desire to see a strong, faithful church established in the coastal town of Madang.

The Twombly Family

Bryan and Kerra Twombly were trained up and sent by CBC in June of 2023 to Madang, Papua New Guinea with their three kids, Uriah, Sadie, and PJ. Both Bryan and Kerra were interested in missions early in life, which eventually led them to attend a two year missionary training course at the Center for Pioneer Church Planting in South Texas from 2013-2015. There they met, got engaged in their first year as students, and got married just before their second year of training. Through the counsel of their elders after completing the training program they moved back to Stuart in 2015 with the aim of Bryan being ordained and eventually sent out by CBC to church plant on the foreign mission field. For the next 8 years Bryan served at CBC, eventually leading the student ministry. He completed CBC’s three year pastoral training program and took classes at The Expositors Seminary in Jupiter. During this time the Twomblys had their 3 children and were given lots of opportunities to be tested and affirmed for ministry. In 2022 the elders of CBC ordained Bryan for the work of Gospel ministry with the goal of being sent out as a missionary church planter as soon as possible.

Current Ministry

Since arriving in Madang in 2023 the Twomblys have learned the national language of Tok Pisin (the language in which they are planning to do ministry) and continue to spend a considerable amount of time learning culture and building relationships. Over the first two years Bryan has had the particular goal of trying to get a pulse of the church in Madang in order to determine if church planting or strengthening an existing church would be the direction of their ministry. In 2024 an opportunity opened up for Bryan to preach and teach throughout one particular church denomination, and he has been regularly meeting with a handful of their pastors to help with pastoral training. Kerra has also been plugging in with their women's ministry and has been given opportunities to teach women’s Bible study and Sunday school teachers within that same denomination.

Future Ministry Plans

The Twomblys are now in the process of making plans for church planting in Madang in 2027 upon return from their furlough. Although their relationships with churches in town have been beneficial and have provided ample opportunity to learn PNG culture as well as preaching and teaching within the national language, they still believe there is a significant need for a church plant in Madang. Once plans have been settled and there is a clear trajectory for church planting, they will begin gathering all who will come to hear regular preaching of God’s Word. The people of Madang will then have the opportunity to regularly sit under the authoritative exposition of God's Word. If God wills, through evangelism, preaching, teaching, discipleship, and intentional serving a church will be formed in Madang.
